(AP) -- Mount Pleasant is making it pay for residents of the campus town to participate in the U.S. Census. The city says it's offering Central Michigan University students and other residents "the opportunity to win cash" by visiting city hall or the Bovee University Center at selected times.
The Morning Sun newspaper says Mount Pleasant is giving out $2,000 in cash prizes over two weeks. City planning director Jeff Gray says people are starting to get census forms in the mail, and this is a good time to promote participation.
Government aid and revenue sharing can depend on communities' population counts in the census.
