THOMAS TWP. -- The following is a message from Hemlock Semiconductor Group regarding a chemical release:

Hemlock Semiconductor Group experienced a chemical release at around midnight Thursday morning at its Thomas Twp. site during a planned maintenance operation.  Hemlock Semiconductor and local emergency response officials quickly responded to the site and contained it shortly after 1 a.m.

There were no serious injuries, though one operator working in the area of the release was exposed and quickly treated on site.

Residents living near the Hemlock Semiconductor site were asked to stay in their homes temporarily as a precaution.

An investigation is currently under way at the site to determine the exact cause of the incident.

“Hemlock Semiconductor’s greatest concern is the safety of its employees and the community,” said Jim Cross, site manager at Hemlock Semiconductor. “We will work hard to learn from this incident as we seek to prevent this from happening in the future.”
