The Classical Academy and Southwestern Academy are accepting applications for enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year until May 28. Applications may be picked up in the Secondary Education office located on the second floor of the Flint Community Schools’ Administration Building, 923 E. Kearsley St.
Students interested in attending one of the two schools – each of which has grades 7-12 – must meet the following admission requirements:
• 2.7 Grade Point Average (GPA) or better for Southwestern Academy
• 3.0 GPA or better for The Classical Academy
• MEAP scores of 1's & 2's in Reading and Math, and other standardized test scores at or above grade level
• One-page autobiography (may be typed or neatly hand-written)
• Two letters of recommendation, including: (1) a current teacher and (2) a person who is not a relative (i.e., minister, personal friend, etc.)
• Any awards or recognition received (optional)
Completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. May 28 in the district’s Secondary Education office. Please do not mail applications.
The Classical Academy and Southwestern Academy are housed in the same building at 1420 W. Twelfth St. Earlier this year, The Classical Academy was authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The Middle Years Programme covers grades 7-10.
