(AP) -- SALINE, Mich. - A former Michigan House speaker has pleaded guilty to impaired driving after being arrested with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Craig DeRoche faces sentencing May 25 before Saline District Judge Richard E. Conlin.

Saline City Attorney Allan Grossman says DeRoche made the plea March 22. Phone messages seeking comment were left Monday for the former lawmaker. The 39-year-old Republican was House speaker in 2005-06.

Police have said witnesses reported an apparently drunken man get out of his car outside a store Feb. 9. They say a breath test showed DeRoche had a blood alcohol level of 0.249 percent. Anything over 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated in Michigan.
