(AP) -- A conservation easement for 300 acres of property in Sanilac County will help protect the Cass River. The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy says the easement granted by Frank and Sandra Piesko ensures that the land in Evergreen Township, located about 50 miles northeast of Flint, will remain natural and undeveloped.
Frank Piesko is a dentist practicing in Frankenmuth who says managing his property as a wildlife habitat is a passion. The property that includes forested wetlands and meadows is protected but remains closed to the public.
The land is bisected by more than 3,000 feet of the South Branch of the Cass River and more than 5,000 feet of the river's Middle Branch. They converge to form the Cass River, which flows west to the Saginaw River.
