(AP) -- Isabella County Jail inmates and their relatives and acquaintnces on the outside soon won't have much to say to each other. But Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski isn't giving them much choice. Starting Saturday, inmates' incoming and outgoing mail will be limited to postcards.

Mioduszewski tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant that the rule is meant to reduce the time corrections officers spend sorting mail and searching it for contraband. Exceptions will be made for legal or judicial correspondence. Jail administrator Lt. Tom Recker says officers have seized contraband including tobacco, matches hidden between photographs and notes that are sexual in nature.

Recker also says inmate-to-inmate mail will no longer be processed because it causes internal issues. Inmates will be able to purchase stamped postcards at the jail commissary.
