Governor Granholm signs the texting while driving ban live on Oprah.
Oprah is a big supporter of the ban on texting while driving calling on people to join her "No Phone Zone."
The governor appeared via satellite.
We talked to Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel about the ability to enforce to the law.
He says, deputies will have to actually see someone texting to give them a ticket for that.
He says, drivers should be focused on the bigger picture.
"If you're driving carelessly, I don't care if it's texting, if its putting makeup on, or if it's eating food. If you can't control your vehicle because of any of those factors or anything else you may get a ticket for careless driving because we want you to focus on the road," Federspiel says.
Offenders will have to pay a $100 fine.
The ban goes into affect July 1st.
