LANSING -- It was yet another proud moment for Shonda Ingram, mother of Alabama running back, Heisman Trophy winner, and Flint native Mark Ingram Jr. His mother, sister and grand parents joined State Sen. John Gleason (D-Flushing) as the Transportation Committee passed Senate Bill 1269 which will rename part of I-675 after him.
“Growing up as a young child, he was always competitive,” Shonda Ingram said, moments before testifying before the committee.
Ingram was a student at Flint Southwestern Academy before attending the University of Alabama to play football under Head Coach Nick Saban. He won the closest Heisman race in the 75-year history last December, bringing the first Heisman to Alabama. Ingram also led Alabama to their 13th National Championship in football. He rushed for a school record 1,542 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in his sophomore season.
Meanwhile Gleason’s bill will go to the full Senate for a vote later this month.
