(AP) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation is sponsoring courses around the state dubbed "Training Wheels" that are aimed at communities that want to provide bicycle facilities for their residents. The first is Monday in Detroit. The two-hour course is designed to show how easy it can be to convert existing infrastructure into roads with bicycle paths. It includes classroom time and a bike tour.
Other courses are Tuesday in Bay City, Wednesday in Charlotte, Thursday in Benton Harbor and Friday in the Muskegon area. More are June 15 in Houghton, June 16 in Marquette, June 17 in Sault Ste. Marie and June 18 in Petoskey.
The courses are intended for city managers, planners, council members, Chamber of Commerce members and Downtown Development Authority staff members.
