(AP) -- Autopsies have been performed on two western Michigan six-year-old friends who drowned in an abandoned swimming pool. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that results from Monday's autopsies on Torrey Day and Ya'Mesha Mitchell were not available. The children drowned around noon Sunday in the partly full pool of murky water behind a vacant home in the Muskegon County community of Muskegon Heights.
The newspaper and WZZM-TV report the children were looking for flowers to pick for Mother's Day. They entered the pool area through an opening where a gate was loosely tied. Torrey slipped into the pool, and Ya'Mesha drowned trying to save him.
Witnesses attempted to resuscitate the boy and girl. They were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
