Renaissance High hosts Special Olympics games

(AP) -- About 700 athletes are expected to compete in the 32nd anniversary Special Olympics Detroit Local Games at Renaissance High School. A statement from the Detroit Public Schools says the event starts Friday morning with a parade by the participants at the northwest side school.

Events include the 50- and 100-meter dash, long jump, softball throw and Motor Activity Training Program. District emergency financial manager Robert Bobb will be one of the featured speakers. Cody High School student Marcus Hill will recite the Special Olympics oath.
