CLARE CO. (AP) -- Two Clare County brothers accused of burning a 6-year-old boy's buttocks with a blowtorch have pleaded no contest to attempted assault with a dangerous weapon.
Authorities say in exchange for the plea, child abuse and torture charges against 37-year-old Gerald Hall and 44-year-old Glen Hall were dropped.
Reports say both men were released after a mistrial was declared in March. Jurors had deliberated about 19 hours following a one-week trial.
Police said the boy, who is Gerald Hall's son, was burned at least once in April 2009.
A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
A sentencing date has not been set.
