(AP) -- State government's top economists are getting ready to decide how much of a hole Michigan is in this budget year. The directors of the House and Senate fiscal agencies and state Treasurer Robert Kleine will meet Friday morning to make an official estimate of the state's revenues for the current and upcoming budget years.
They likely will determine the state has a general fund deficit of between $300 million and $500 million for the budget year ending Sept. 30. Analysts say revenue to the state's school aid fund is coming in better than expected, however. Gov. Jennifer Granholm hasn't said what she'll propose to fill the general fund gap.
The revenue estimates will help lawmakers as they draw up the budget for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.
