As a team of six NASA astronauts prepares to return from the International Space Station aboard  space shuttle Atlantis on Wednesday, May 26, a Saginaw Valley State University graduate will be responsible for their safe return.

Tony Ceccacci, a 1979 engineering graduate and Eastpointe native, will serve as entry flight director, responsible for the Mission Control and Landing Site support teams to ensure the shuttle is in a safe configuration to return to earth, and deciding where it will land, based on weather and other factors.  While he has served as lead flight director for prior NASA missions (including 2009 when he arranged to have an SVSU pennant travel aboard Atlantis), this is his first assignment as entry flight director.

The shuttle currently is scheduled to land around 8:48 a.m. Wednesday morning.
