DETROIT (AP) -- A judge has cleared the way for Detroit political consultant Sam Riddle to surrender to federal marshals and be locked up for corruption.
Riddle pleaded guilty last week and won't be formally sentenced until August. But by surrendering now, he hopes to stay in federal custody and serve a state sentence for assault at the same time.
U.S. District Judge Marianne Battani canceled Riddle's bond Tuesday, letting him surrender at Detroit's U.S. courthouse.
Riddle pleaded guilty to conspiracy. He admitted having roles in bribery and extortion schemes with a Southfield councilman and then-Detroit councilwoman Monica Conyers.
Riddle will be sentenced Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court for assault and a gun crime.
