Notices could go out by Friday
BAY CITY -- BAY CITY -- More layoff notices will soon be sent out of Bay City City Hall. Sources tell NBC25 it could happen at the end of this week or immediately after the Memorial Day holiday next week.
City Manager Robert Belleman did not have a specific number for the notices, but highlighted the developments following a closed-door three hour meeting with city commissioners Wednesday night.
He did say, “it would impact the utilities and our internal service funds, and some of the special revenue funds.” This comes on top of the 19 layoff notices already sent out to employees, which would take place on June 30. Eleven of those are in the police and fire departments.
Meanwhile negotiations continue between public safety, and civilian union organizations. City Commissioners have to pass a balanced budget, trimming a $1.7 million deficit by July 1, when the new fiscal year starts.
