BAY CITY -- Bay City Commissioners got an earful from residents Monday night, as leaders mulled several ways to pay for sewer and water operations. At least two plans were reportedly thrown out, after residents were concerned that people making the least amount of money and using the least amount of water would pay the most.
“Bay City has a lot of older people on fixed incomes and this would really hit them hard,” said resident and former Bay City Commissioner Thomas Baird. Officials have been scrambling for alternative ways to meet water and sewer costs after Hampton Township pulled out of Bay City’s operations.
Mayor Charles Brunner said there are other options in the works. One includes a possible partnership between the Saginaw and Midland water systems, “putting together not only a water authority but a sewer authority so we look for some efficiencies and maybe even partner with the Bay County sewer system,” Brunner said.
