(AP) -- A 27-year-old woman will spend a year jail sentence for biting off a third of her sister's nose during a drunken fight at their home. Bobbie J. Smith of Jackson County's Napoleon Township pleaded guilty in April to reduced charges of aggravated assault, malicious destruction of property and resisting an officer.
The attack on Sandra Smith happened Jan. 17. Bobbie Smith first was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and with mayhem, a charge that involves mutilating someone's nose.
She brought her two children to court Thursday, telling Circuit Judge Thomas Wilson they depend on her. She expressed surprise when he jailed her.
Wilson told her he was "deadly serious," calling it a "vicious attack."
