Ten lucky students from Grand Blanc West Middle School were set to take a tethered hot air balloon ride today, but the windy weather caused a delay. The students were still able to see the pilot blow up the balloon.
The students won the balloon ride via a fundraising raffle held for Emma Hudson, 12 yo. a West Middle School student who is battling leukemia.
The balloon ride was actually won by Jennifer Christensen, a West Middle School parent, who donated it the school to be used as a fundraiser for Emma.
Emma was diagnosed with leukemia October 6th and has been in and out of the hospitals ever since.
Her mother, Kelli Hudson says, "Emma's got an incredible positive attitude we're going to beat cancer and were going show who is boss."
"In a way," Emma says, "if I could take this away I don't think I would. I've met so many nurses and doctors, there are so many people out there who are thinking of me, it's just overwhelming."
Now Emma get to look forward to an even greater adventure, a balloon ride across Genesee County. But lets not forget about her greatest journey of all... "I'm going to beat cancer, and that's a promise."
