DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has issued an official proclamation making Monday "Ernie Harwell Day" in the city.
The longtime Tigers broadcaster died last month from cancer. He was 92.
Bing says in the proclamation that "Harwell's distinctive voice not only announced baseball games, but also signified the beginningof summer."
That's why June 21 was selected as "Ernie Harwell Day." It's the first day of summer.
