(AP) -- Michigan's public schools will get an extra $11 per student headed into the next academic year under a budget bill that's headed to Gov. Jennifer Granholm for her signature. The Republican-led Senate passed the state's latest school aid budget by a 37-1 vote Thursday. The Democratic-led House passed it by a 98-6 vote, sending it to Granholm.

A spokeswoman says the governor will sign the bill. Districts will get the small increase as early as this summer. The increase will be carried over into the new state budget year that starts Oct. 1.

The bill will help some schools but won't be enough to avoid cuts in some districts.

Schools lost $165 per student in state aid last October.
