MT. PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross says it is in desperate need of food donations for their Emergency Food Pantry.

The pantry assists about 215 families in Isabella County each month, but they report June was an especially busy month.  The Central Michigan chapter says in June alone, they helped 319 families and handed out about providing 14,700 meals.

June’s increase left the pantry with barely any food left. So, the Red Cross is asking for donations.

The organization needs non-perishable food items (especially macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, canned fruit, soup, baked beans, cereal, dairy products, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, and juice), meat (canned or processed), and money to purchase perishable items.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 3:45 pm at 215 E. Broadway St. in Mt. Pleasant.
