(AP) -- A Michigan assistant attorney general mhas been fined $10,000 for his lack of decorum during a trial in federal court in Ann Arbor. A judge says James Farrell was argumentative and "physically injecting himself" into conflicts during a civil trial involving a fatal shooting by a state trooper.
Federal Judge John Corbett O'Meara declared a mistrial in May, partly because of Farrell. The judge on Tuesday deferred payment of the fine until after a new trial in August. Farrell was representing two troopers who were sued over a fatal shooting in Detroit in 2001.
In a court filing, the attorney general's office says he's getting supervision and training. Farrell has been a lawyer for about 30 years.
