For two days during "Tall Ship Celebration: Bay City" (which runs July 15-18), the Saginaw River Marine Historical Society of Bay City will be offering tours of the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse. This will be only the second time the lighthouse has ever been opened to the public, with the first time during Bay City’s Tall Ship Celebration in 2006.The hours for tours of the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children (age 5 and under are free). A shuttle bus will pick people up for the trip to the lighthouse and back. The location is at Bay City's west side, at Veteran's Memorial Park on John F. Kennedy Drive.
The Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse was built in 1876 and is located near the west side of the Saginaw River in Bangor Township of Bay County, Michigan. It was decommissioned as a lighthouse in the 1960s but continued to serve as a Coast Guard Station until, in 1980, the Coast Guard moved across the Saginaw River into a new building in Hampton Township.
