VASSAR -- The texting while driving ban has been in affect for nearly two weeks, NBC25 decided to find out if it’s affecting business for cell phone providers.
One company is putting customer safety in front of profit.
The new cell phone law hasn't deterred consumers from going after the latest technology at the Radio Shack in Vassar.
In fact, the owner, Danielle Hunkins says her biggest sellers are the Rumor Touch and the Incognito, phones specifically designed for texting.
And it’s not just the teenagers that are going gaga for the latest gadgets; the owner says she gets a lot of grandparents wanting to text with their grandkids.
Hunkins says, regardless of age she reminds every customer that texting while driving is dangerous, and it's now against the law.
"Texting while driving can wait, it's not worth it, that two seconds that you look down to send your text, next thing you know somebody has pulled out in front of you, or stopped in front of you," said Danielle Hunkins the owner of the Radio Shack in Vassar.
Hunkins is also telling her customers about a new application with the Droid phone, where you can actually talk to your cell phone and it will text for you.
Hunkins hopes the app will cut down on the number of cell phone related crashes.
Just a reminder for those who are still texting while driving, if you're caught by police, it will cost you $100 for the first offense, and $200 for the second offense.
