(AP) -- President Barack Obama is attending the groundbreaking for a new battery manufacturing facility in Michigan on Thursday to promote his administration's investments in advanced battery and electric vehicle technology.
The Compact Power plant in Holland, Mich., will produce advanced batteries for Chevrolet and Ford electric cars. The facility is the ninth factory to begin construction since the administration allocated $2.4 billion from the president's economic stimulus program toward production of advanced batteries and electric vehicles.
White House officials say the investments will increase U.S. production of advanced batteries from 2 percent to 40 percent of the world's supply by 2015, creating thousands of jobs.
