(AP) -- Michigan's state lawmakers are returning to session at the state Capitol after a two-week summer break. Both the Republican-led Senate and Democratic-led House are scheduled to be back in session Wednesday. Both chambers have scheduled meetings of the main appropriations committees handling work on the state's budget problems. Michigan's state government faces shortfalls for the current budget year and the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

The Legislature is not expected to be in full session very often heading up to the Aug. 3 primary elections. All 148 seats in the Legislature are up for grabs in this year's elections.
