Flint police receive money to help fight crime.
Monday night the city council approved the purchase of cameras and surveillance systems to help dispatchers locate which patrol cars are closest to crimes.
The money comes from a $1.1-million federal grant.
Police Chief Alvern Lock says, "I'm not going to say 'We don't need more people.' We do, but this will help the people that are here do their job more effectively."
The new state-of-the-art equipment is expected to be purchased in the next few months.
