(AP) -- Michigan has given a Centers of Energy Excellence designation and $3.5 million in funding for a wind turbine component project in Eaton Rapids. The collaboration is being led by URV USA, a subsidiary of a Finnish supplier of cast-iron wind turbine components.
The Michigan Strategic Fund board approved the designation and funding Wednesday. The state says the project will also get $4 million in matching funds from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Astraeus Wind Energy has promised to buy a large portion of URV USA's initial output.
