Polls show a three-way contest between Snyder, Cox and Hoekstra
LANSING -- NBC25 continues its look inside the governor’s race with a look at the Republican candidates running for the GOP gubernatorial nomination. Earlier this week, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and state House Speaker Andy Dillon were profiled in the Democratic contest.
This report introduces you to a crowded field including U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Holland); Attorney General Mike Cox, Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, and State Senator Tom George (R-Kalamazoo). George is also a Flint-native.
Recent polling shows a three way contest with Snyder leading the pack with 26 percent. The survey of 400 likely Republican voters had Cox with 24 percent and Hoekstra with 23 percent. Sheriff Bouchard lagged behind with 10 percent and George with 1 percent. The Detroit Free Press/WXYZ Channel 7 poll has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.
