(AP) -- Closing arguments are scheduled in a federal court trial in Michigan that could lead to a death sentence for a California man accused of murdering an armored-truck courier. Thirty-seven-year-old Timothy O'Reilly is on trial in Detroit U.S. District Court in the 2001 killing of 30-year-old Norman Stephens. Closing arguments were set for Monday.
There's no death penalty in Michigan state law. Federal prosecutors say O'Reilly shot Stephens. The defense says O'Reilly was living with his parents in Camarillo, Calif., when he came under the spell of co-defendant Norman Duncan, a Detroit native who encouraged him to move to Michigan.
If the jurors convict O'Reilly, they next consider whether he should get capital punishment.
