The economy has put a financial strain on many Michigan charities, and Art Van Furniture is leading the way to help with its 2010 “Million Dollar Charity Challenge.” This is the second year that Art Van will award $1 million in grants to 50 Michigan charities, in amounts from $5,000 to $50,000.
The grants are designed to help support Michigan-based children, health and human services programs.
Art Van Furniture launched the program in 2009 to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and received over 560 applications last year for the 50 grants. “To continue the momentum in 2010, all eligible 2009 Charity Challenge recipients are receiving an additional $5000 each,” said President Gary Van Elslander of Art Van Furniture. The donations are described as ‘challenge grants’ in order to encourage the people of Michigan to make a contribution and maximize fundraising.
Grant recipients will be announced in October. For more information, visit www.artvan.com.
