(AP) -- Michigan wants to make its outdoor recreation more accessible to people with disabilities. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has announced the "Access Michigan Outdoors" initiative. The kickoff was part of a 20th anniversary celebration last month for the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Michigan plans to work with companies, associations and individuals to help improve access. Officials also are seeking help from the public in creating a Michigan access plan for outdoor recreation.

The Americans with Disabilities Act became law in July 1990. It bans workplace discrimination against qualified people with disabilities and require improved access to public places and transportation.
