GRAND BLANC -- Hundreds of Genesys technical workers protested proposed cuts to their retirement packages outside of the Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Wednesday.

“(We want) fair pay, fair wages.  Don’t take our pensions,” said Trisha Mulally, a hospital worker and member of Teamsters Local 332.

The technical workers, which include LPNs, technicians and paramedics for example, have been without a contract since March 17.  Formal talks between their union and Genesys management broke down on June 24.  Members said they were notified layoffs and cuts to benefits would start on August 29.

“No one is ever prepared,” said one worker, when asked if they were ready to strike.  Union President Nina Bugbee told NBC25 the nearly 300 technical workers may consider a strike by the end of the month.

Genesys management has not formally commented on the issue so far.  Meanwhile UAW officials announced they are backing the Teamsters Local 332.
