SAGINAW TOWNSHIP -- It was no ordinary day at the Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw Township Thursday.

A mother gave birth right out front Sears.

It all happened so fast.  Thursday NBC25 talked to the mother who says without the quick reaction of two shoppers, she would have been in a very dire situation.

19-year-old Chasity Davis was shopping near Sears at the Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw Township Thursday when something very unexpected happened.

"And I was like oh my gosh, I was feeling contractions, and I was like am I going to have this baby today?" said Chasity Davis who delivered her baby at the mall.

"From this area over here, I heard a woman cry out help, ‘Help, the baby's coming, the baby's coming," said shopper Dawn Gombar.

Shoppers Dawn Gombar and Stacy Farrell rushed to help Davis.

"They were like angels, secret angels," said Davis.

"I think I asked her, are you feeling pressure, and she said yes, and I said I’m calling 911," said shopper Stacy Farrell.

That's when employees from Rainbow heard what was going on and quickly ran outside to offer some blankets, then employees from Modern Nails heard what was going on and offered some latex gloves, it became a collaborative effort to make sure baby Devin arrived safely.

"And that lady Dawn, who delivered the baby, they gave her the gloves and she was looking like why are you guys giving me these gloves? I don't know what I’m doing," said Davis.

"No time to really think, it was like Jesus take the wheel," said Gombar.

"And I was like ahhh whooo, breathing through the contractions," said Davis.

"When we saw the crowning we said okay you need to push," said Gombar.

"So ahhhh here it goes," said Davis.

"The head came first, and the shoulders followed, and a couple of seconds later the baby started to cry and it was overwhelmingly emotional," said Gombar.

"And then you know I just started crying," said Davis.

"I came up there and gave her a kiss and told her don't cry now, you did good, it’s over," said Gombar.

"Yeah but this is like tears of joy, you guys didn't have to help me, and you helped me," said Davis.

"She was so calm and so composed," said Farrell.

"Now he is the Fashion Square Mall baby, and now I’m just so happy it’s over," said Davis.

Friday, Farrell came to visit Davis and baby Devin at Covenant Hospital.

He’s six pounds, 19 inches, and a perfect bundle of joy.

Davis’ due date was September 17, so baby Devin came about three weeks early.

Still doctors say he is full term and completely healthy.

Both of the shoppers who helped Davis call themselves honorary grandmothers.
