DETROIT (AP) - Thousands of people demanding jobs marched downtown with UAW President Bob King and the Rev. Jesse Jackson on Saturday.

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News reported that the peaceful march urged leaders to focus on jobs, justice and peace.

Jackson said Detroit and Michigan are "ground zero of the urban crisis." Detroit and Michigan have been slower than other parts of the country to recover from the recession.

A series of similar marches are planned for other parts of the country leading up to one on Oct. 2 in Washington, D.C.
