Sunday volunteers from all around Genesee County went to work to help hundreds of homeless. This in an event put together by the Flint Islamic Center Youth Group and the City of Flint Housing Commission.
They passed out food, clothing, and toys to families in need at a one-day, one-stop fair of service.
Meantime, in 19 cities across the country, others were doing the same thing.
Organizers call it the annual “Day of Dignity.”
The day comes during Ramadan. It’s a time when Muslims try to purify themselves through prayer, good deeds, and the self-restraint that comes with fasting.
Volunteers say fasting helps them empathize with those who go without basic necessities, and helps inspire a desire to help others.
