Granholm orders flags to be lowered for Marine

(AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for a Marine from northern lower Michigan who died in Afghanistan. Flags are to be lowered Tuesday in honor of Sgt. Jason D. Calo of Mancelona. The 23-year-old died Aug. 22 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province.

He was part of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Calo also served in Iraq in 2008. The Pentagon listed Calo's home of record as Lexington, Ky.
