(AP) -- Michigan Republican officials have picked Judy Emmons to run for the 33rd District state Senate seat. The Michigan Republican Party said Wednesday that Emmons will replace state Rep. Brian Calley of Portland on the ballot. Calley is running on the Republican statewide ticket as lieutenant governor, picked by gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder.
Emmons will run against Democrat James Hoisington for the Senate seat. Emmons is an ex-state representative. Officials from Republican county executive committees in Clinton, Ionia, Isabella and Montcalm counties nominated Emmons for the Senate seat.
The meeting to nominate a candidate was held at Alma High School.
