(AP) -- Authorities say 13 horses including some that were emaciated have been confiscated from an Oakland County farm and their owner has been ticketed for 19 counts of animal cruelty. Oakland County Animal Control and Michigan State Police confiscated the horses on Wednesday from the farm in Rose Township, about 40 miles northwest of Detroit. The farm's name wasn't released.
Authorities say they first visited the farm about a month earlier after getting a tip that 19 horses were undernourished. Animal control officers had advised the owner the improve conditions for the horses.
Before the confiscation, one of the horses was put down and five were put in the care of new owners.
The Oakland County Animal Shelter is accepting donations to help feed and care for the horses.
