Friends and family gathered at Lakeville High School to pay tribute to a mid-Michigan woman and her sons found brutally murdered Wednesday.
Police in Manchester, Tennessee say it appears Stephanie Hershman and her sons, 3-year-old Jathan and 1-year-old Jaylon, were killed last Sunday. Investigators found their bodies Wednesday wrapped in garbage bags in a closet in her home. Her boyfriend, Matthew Perkins, 30, is charged with killing them.
In the Lakeville School District, Hershman is remembered as a loving friend with an infectious laugh. When word spread that she had been tragically killed, friend Stephanie White wanted to do something in her honor.
She planned the candlelight vigil Sunday night in front of the school, and hopes it sends a message to Stephanie's family as they mourn. Stephanie touched many lives.
"I wish we could do more to comfort them. It is just a horrific tragedy that happened to those three,” said White. “So hopefully this will help in some way."
Police arrested Perkins for her death. The Army recruiter, who recently returned from Afghanistan remains in jail. Police say he confessed to the crimes. They have not released any information on motive.
