A local soldier is serving our country with music.
NBC25 has a look at her service in the Army's Fife and Drum Corps.
The Army Fife and Drum Corps is the only unit of its kind in the Armed Forces.
For Saginaw native Sergeant First Class Jennifer Bailey, it's a way to preserve history with music.
Today the music of the U.S. Army Fife and Drum Corp inspires patriotism.
In the past, soldiers used such music as a tool of war.
During the American Revolution soldiers used the beats of drums and the music from the portable and durable fife to relay messages in combat.
“What I appreciate about this unit is what we represent and the tradition of the military musician,” said Saginaw native Sergeant First Class Jennifer Bailey.
Saginaw native Sergeant First Class Jennifer Bailey is proud to use her passion for music to encourage patriotism and preserve history.
She wears the uniform of the revolutionary soldier during performances that remind folks of our nation's hard fought battle for freedom.
Each drum beat and each note played is in service to our nation.
“While I might not be deployed, while I might be very safe here in my little bubble representing the tradition of the musicians who were not safe, who were out there on the front lines relaying commands, who were building morale, who were laying it all on the line,” said Bailey.
The Fife and Drum Corps is stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia, but performs around the nation for hundreds of events every year.
