(AP) -- A small plane has crashed into woods near a small airport in Livingston County, injuring the 64-year-old pilot. The crash happened Monday near Maple Grove Airport in Conway Township, about 55 miles northwest of Detroit.
The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports the pilot crashed his single-seat home-built, experimental airplane while practicing a touch-and-go maneuver. That involves briefly touching down and then taking off.
The newspaper says the pilot was in critical condition Monday evening. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
A message was left Monday with the Federal Aviation Administration.
