Gov. Granholm orders flags lowered for Marine

(AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff statewide for a Marine from southwestern Michigan who died while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan. Flags are to be lowered Tuesday in honor of 22-year-old Sgt. Anthony D. Matteoni of Union City. His funeral also is Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Burial will follow in Augusta.

Matteoni died Oct. 1 in Helmand province. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
