Nexteer Automotive says it is hiring professionals skilled in software engineering and mechatronics, a field that combines mechanical and electrical engineering. The new hires will work to help Nexteer develop electric power steering technologies.
"We plan to add up to 100 new engineers at our Saginaw, Mich., headquarters by the end of 2010," said Mike Richardson, vice president of engineering and global steering business line for Nexteer in a press release.
"Our advanced electric power steering systems feature sophisticated electronic software and sensors, so we're looking for innovative, analytical problem-solvers who are passionate about programming and coding the next generation of steering technology."
The Saginaw-based auto supplier says in 2006 it had two electronic power steering customers, but it expects to expand its customer base six-fold by 2012 as automakers make the conversion from hydraulic systems to electric to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy.
