(AP) -- Central Michigan University says it's working with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe to return ancestral remains and burial objects to the tribe early next month. The university says it started talks on repatriating the remains in 2008. It says its Museum of Cultural and Natural History has the remains of 144 Saginaw Chippewa ancestors.
On Nov. 3, the process starts with a round-table discussion in the Park Library Auditorium. American Indian Movement co-founder Dennis Banks will speak on the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
On Nov. 4, a procession of people is to walk with the remains from campus to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe's Nibokaan Ancestral Cemetery. A burial is planned Nov. 5.:
