Bay City's electrical department and the United Way are teaming up to give free energy star appliances to those with limited incomes.

Applicants have to be customers of the Bay City electric department.

They must have an income of 200% or less of the poverty level. That's $44,100 or less for a family of four.

The United Way will then interview and visit the home of the applicant.

Phil Newton, the director of Bay City Electric Light & Power says, "We hope it'll help our customers who are having a hard time with their bills because they won't be using as much electricity, which you would think that wouldn't be good for us, but if we can provide energy savings cheaper than that works for everybody."
