(AP) -- A storm muscling through the Midwest is expected to deliver severe winds gusting upward of 60 miles per hour throughout Michigan.
Severe thunderstorms are likely today, and tornadoes are possible.
NBC25 Meteorologists Mark Torregrossa, Bryan Hughes and Kevin Usealman are following the storm and will have updates throughout the day on ConnectMidMichigan.com and at NBC25 News at 6 p.m.
Several west Michigan schools closed because of a tornado watch. A high-wind advisory remains in effect.
DTE Energy Co. spokesman Scott Simons said utility crews are on standby and officials expect the storms will topple electrical wires.
Simons says the public utility so far this year has experienced 15 outages related to severe weather, twice the amount of 2009.
