SAGINAW -- Early voting has started up across the country and with that come reports of problems at the polls. One woman in Nevada claimed she had intended to vote for Republican senate candidate Sharon Angle but incumbent Democratic Senator Harry Reid was already checked on her ballot.
In North Carolina, WITN-TV reports at least two counties with voting machine problems there. Given the problems, NBC25 did some digging to see what local election officials are doing to secure your vote at the polls.
“The job of a clerk is to make sure that every vote counts and that every voter can vote,” said Saginaw County Clerk Sue Kaltenbach.
Her staff works with election workers in 92 county precincts, dealing with 115 various ballots. To avoid errors, she incorporates technology in the vote count. Ballot data is transferred via phone line and modem to counters, before being sent to the state for reporting.
