GENESEE COUNTY -- Genesee County Undersheriff James Gage tells NBC25 that serial stabbing suspect, Elias Abeulazam, was tazed Wednesday night after fighting several deputies.
Abuelazam threatened a deputy during the day Wednesday and a sergeant gave him a disciplinary notice.
Soon after, it was time for Abuelazam’s one hour break. In accordance with an agreement with Abuelazam’s attorney, the guards took off the suspect’s chains and leg irons while he was allowed outside of his jail cell.
During that time, Abuelazam reportedly charged at the officer who gave him the warning earlier that day. The suspect swung at the guard, but the guard ducked in time and Abuelazam missed. At that time, several large deputies came to assist and fought the 6-foot-5, 280-pound inmate to the ground.
Deputies then used a Taser gun to control the inmate. He was locked up in chains and put in his cell.
Two deputies injured their hands during the fight and will take a few days off to recover.
Abuelazam scraped his face and eye and has some swelling.
